Pair of black Chiavari chairs with cane seat. Very lightweight. Cane with damage. History: The Chiavarina was created in 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, a cabinetmaker from the Italian / Ligurian town Chiavari. It soon became very popular and many factories opened in the region and these chairs are still made in that same area nowadays. It has inspired many architects and designers ever since. For example Gio Ponti was inspired by the structural system of Chiavari chairs when he designed the famous Superleggera chair in 1955.
