These chairs were designed by the award-winning architect Jan Bočan especially for the Czechoslovakian embassy in Stockholm that was built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The project was finished in 1972. He also designed all the furniture for the building, including this pair of bentwood easy chairs. Possibly produced by Thonet or Ton. The chairs were never put into serial production at the time so these examples are from the actual embassy. The purple cushions are set around a dark bentwood frame with a rich woodgrain and arched central support. The upholstery are possibly of a later date. Both chairs are in a good vintage condition with normal wear consistent with age and use.
